Mobile App plant trees in your city

Worried about the depleting green cover in your city but too lazy to join a tree planting drive? Fret not. A mobile and web-based software company will launch an app on Wednesday that will help people give suggestions on where to plant trees.

Christened ‘Suggest a Tree Spot’, the smartphone app will allow users to take pictures of spots where trees can be planted. The app, which will work on Android-based phones and  tablets, will then tag the location on Google Maps and upload the information along with the details of the user on www.suggestatreespot.com. Suggestions made in each city will be compiled and forwarded to local municipal authorities, which can use the information for tree plantation drives. Users can also give information on the number of trees that need to be planted.

Webrosoft Solutions, a Ludhiana-based company, has already discussed the app with the municipal corporations of Ludhiana, Amritsar and south Delhi, and will contact other civic bodies across India once suggestions start pouring in.

“Most city dwellers complain of shrinking green cover. We have compiled a database of important municipal authorities and will reach out to them with suggestions from users,” said Jaskirat Singh, CEO, Webrosoft Solutions. “Anyone with an Android phone or a tablet can install the app from the Google Playstore for free,” Singh added. “It has a one-time registration and login process.”

The company had earlier designed an app for the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation using which citizens could register complaints about civic issues, such as uneven roads and broken pipelines.
